Community School

Located on North Lombard in the heart of St. Johns, our North Portland childcare center is a bright, light-filled space serving children from 12 months through Kindergarten.

St. Johns has three spacious classrooms: a group of up to 8 one-year-olds, a classroom of up to 10 two-year-olds, and a preschool classroom serving up to 15 children ages three to five.

Each classroom is supported by two teachers who build strong, responsive relationships with the children while guiding them through process-based art explorations, lively outdoor experiences, and plenty of child-led play.

Each classroom follows a thoughtfully designed daily rhythm that responds to the interests, needs, and development of the group. The day includes a balance of large- and small-group experiences, guided projects and investigations, outdoor time, and opportunities for independent and child-led play.

Music Classes

Included in tuition are music classes every other week with our visiting teaching artist, Elodie from Chords Music. Elodie brings child-sized ukuleles and a warm, engaging teaching style that encourages children to explore music, movement, rhythm, and their own natural creativity.
